Follicular unit extraction (FUE) enables the physician to remove individual follicular units without making a linear incision. The procedure is minimally invasive, just like the evolution of surgeries in the brain and heart, where large incisions have been abandoned for most surgeries.
What you can expect the day of your procedure:
1. Personal Treatment Plan
Your Rahal physician will answer any remaining questions that you might have, confirm your hair transplant goals and design a natural looking hairline zone to suit the shape of your face, your unique features and your age.
2. Minimally Invasive Graft Removal
Once your plan is confirmed, you are given local anesthesia in the donor area of your scalp, and individual grafts are removed using a small 0.8 millimeter in diameter instrument.
The device creates a tiny circular incision around the follicular unit. The edge is grasped with forceps, and the graft is removed directly from the scalp. Incisions usually heal within a few days.
3. Grafts Are Inspected for Quality
Each individual follicular unit is then inspected under microscopic control to guarantee quality, avoid damage and increase hair yield for our patients. This high attention to detail ensures a completely natural result.
4. Placement of Grafts
You are given local anesthesia in the recipient area of your scalp, and your Rahal physician will create a tiny incision for every individual follicular unit. Each graft is then skillfully placed into the donor sites at the correct position and angle to achieve maximum naturalness, coverage and high density.
FUE Offers the Following Benefits:
- There is no linear scar in the donor area
- FUE scars are virtually undetectable even when the hair is cut short
- There are no sutures or staples to be removed
- The tiny donor sites heal in just a couple of days
- There is minimal discomfort in the donor area
- The patient can exercise shortly after the procedure is performed
The Best Candidates for Follicular Unit Extraction:
- Patients interested in smaller sessions (typically up to 2,500 grafts)
- Patients with limited donor supply and scalp elasticity
- Patients who have a need or desire to wear their hair short
