Podcast Transcription

Hello and welcome to How to Beat Hair Loss, a podcast brought to you by Rahal. I’m your host, Chad Cooper, and I thank you for listening. Our topic we’re going to discuss today is travel tips on helping you prepare for your hair restoration procedure.

First travel tip is to make sure that you arrive the day before your scheduled procedure date. This way you can settle in, you can make sure you get a good night’s sleep before the day of the procedure. Also, we do recommend that you stay close by. We offer a bed and breakfast called Brookline, and that is helpful for our patients, because it is a block away from our clinic. They do offer very affordable rates as well as free breakfast, so very good for our patients. It has everything that you need for afterwards as well. There is a La-Z-Boy chair that is in each room and that’s helpful for sleeping after the procedure. It’s very important that you do stay in a hotel or the bed and breakfast close by. That way it won’t take you long to get to the clinic in the morning, and for traveling back and forth afterwards it’s very convenient.

The morning of the procedure, just some important things to note. Make sure that you do dress comfortably. Best things to wear would be either track pants or sweat pants, something that you will be very comfortable sitting in throughout the day. A shirt, best type of shirts, would be either a zip-down or a button up shirt, something that you don’t have to pull up over your head. So we would recommend a button or a zip-down. That way you can just pull it off instead of having to pull it over your head.

We do recommend eating a good breakfast before you come in as well, that way you have your strength. We will provide snacks and lunch throughout the day, so breaks will be taken through the procedure for that. But it is always good to eat a good breakfast before you come in. Also, it’s very important that you wash your hair before coming in for the procedure. Make sure that it’s washed thoroughly and make sure that you do not wear any product in your hair. Just wash it, dry it, and come in as is.

After that, we really would just recommend that preparing for the procedure that if you do want to watch anything, we do have a TV and a DVD player there, so you are able to bring in movies, if you’d like, or any TV shows that you want to watch, and we would be happy to put those on for you. We do have a big collection at the clinic, too, so you can choose a DVD to watch as well.

Besides that, just one other tip would be if you are traveling from overseas or coming from the U. S., it’s important to note that you will need a passport to come over. Some patients from the U. S. do forget that they need a passport to come into Canada. Just make sure that that is updated and that you have a valid passport.

You also might want to grab a hat, something that’s kind of looser on the scalp. That way, on the way back you can wear a hat on the trip back, and you can cover up the area. You are able to wear a hat once the swelling goes down, so usually after about two to four days, depending on how much swelling you do get.

Besides that, I would just like to say I know a lot of patients do have a lot of anxiety and do have a little bit of stress before the procedure. I can just say that all the patients that I do talk to afterwards always say to me about how they got worked up and how it was so much less than what they expected and it was so much easier than what they expected. I just want to convey that message to you that it is a very easy procedure, and we make sure you’re 100% comfortable, and you’ll have nothing to worry about.

That’s it for travel tips before the hair restoration procedure. We’ll be back soon with another topic on hair restoration. I want to thank you for listening to How to Beat Hair Loss. Once again, my name is Chad Cooper, and I want to thank you for listening.
