Barbie goes bald thanks to Facebook campaign

NBC News reported that a hairless ‘friend of Barbie’ is currently in production after a Facebook campaign with 150, 000 likes lobbied toy-maker Mattel to create a bald version of the popular children’s toy.

The campaign was led by a group of mothers who are either bald from chemotherapy or have children coping with hair loss because of chemotherapy, alopecia or other conditions causing hair loss.

Mattel wanted the dolls available to children who will benefit the most from them and will distribute a limited run of the dolls throughout children’s hospitals next year. Although some complained that the doll should be available to retail consumers, advocates for the bald Barbie applauded the move.
