How to naturally lighten your hair with honey

If you’re trying to lighten your hair naturally, Clutch Magazine’s Kweli I. Wright shares a helpful solution using honey. Used for centuries, honey keeps hair shiny and restores its natural properties.

The following solution will take a little longer but will lighten your hair without removing the natural oils in your hair.

What you’ll need:

  • Raw honey – contains small traces of hydrogen peroxide that naturally lightens hair over time.
  • A glass jar (or plastic) – to mix ingredients for about ten minutes.
  • Olive oil, conditioner, cellophane (optional) and a towel.

Method One: Combine enough raw honey and olive oil to fully cover your hair. For extra nourishment, add half a banana and blend the mixture well using either your hands or a mixer to remove any clumps. Let the mixture stand for 10-15 minutes to develop natural peroxide. Apply mixture to your head and keep it in for about 30-40 minutes.

Method Two: Combine two parts of your favourite conditioner to one part raw honey. Let sit for 10-15 minutes. Apply to your whole head and let it work for 30-40 minutes.

After applying your choice of mixtures, wrap your head with cellophane then a towel to catch any drippings while waiting the 30-40 minutes. Your hair will gradually begin to lighten after about four applications.
