For Hair Loss Awareness Month (August), Viviscal asked 2000 women how hair loss affected their lives. According the survey, a quarter of all women will experience hair loss in their lives and cannot specifically attribute it to genetics like most men. Common causes of female hair loss include hormonal changes, thyroid imbalances and vitamin deficiencies.
Results show that many women are negatively affected by hair loss.
- 96% of women surveyed agreed that their hair is central to their sense of beauty.
- 55% feel judged by their hair loss.
- 39% say it’s affected their sex life.
- 45% are self-conscious about their thinning hair during meetings or work presentations.
- Almost 80% of women with hair loss said it made them less happy.
- 58% are still concerned about falling hair strands even if not experiencing any hair loss personally.
