Will Biotin Supplements Stop Hair Loss?

There is no definitive proof that biotin will help prevent hair loss, though some people are taking supplements because a biotin deficiency (although rare in North America) can be a factor in hair loss.

Biotin is a water soluble B vitamin involved in the synthesis of fatty acids and helps convert calories into energy. Biotin is safe because, like all water soluble vitamins, your body only absorbs what it needs, while the rest is flushed out of the body via the kidneys.

The Institute of Medicine recommends just 30 micrograms a day and this can be obtained through eating foods such as liver, egg yolks, cheese, avocados and raspberries.
